From Hickory, you can take day trips to the beach or skiing in the snow in the mountains. With an average temperature of 86 degrees in July, it is no wonder why this region has become so popular.

In fact, Reader's Digest called Hickory "One of the 10 best places in the United States to form a family." To reach the list of the best places to raise a family, investigators went to the source, surveying parents about factors affecting family life. In the area of Hickory, parents interviewed cited positive factors such as low taxes, the variety of activities available, the quality of schools, the cost of living, and the sense of a community.
