USGI surplus military bivouac bag?
I'm looking to lighten my load and be able to go backpacking this winter. Does anyone know if the military bivouac sack Topic (gore-tex, pattern of forests) are very breathable and adding heat? Only the bivouac sack, not the system of complete rest. I'm using a bag of 15 Marmot degrees with it.
No heat-added, do not add a point of isolation. They are pretty useless in bad weather. They are basically designed to keep your bag dry and protected from wear and tare. I would use a tarp instead of a bivy and there are dozens of ways you can adjust tarp to shelter you stay dry and have room to move. http:// http://www.rei.com/search?query=tarp+shelters www.litebackpacker.com / Ultralite-shelter / index.html
