What happens to the campaign for donation of the surplus after the presidential election?

What about donations to the presidential campaign of McCain and Obama are not used after the elections. Are assigned to the RNC and DNC for use in future campaign? Please include an online source with your answer for a chance to be chosen best answer.

It is for the candidate. They can keep using in their own future campaigns, donating to charity or give it to the DNC / RNC. There was an article about this in Slate.com
