Camping Rucksack – Eliminate Back Issues Whilst Hiking

A good camping rucksack is a must of you’re hiking across miles of wild terrain.  It protects all your gear from the elements, and allows you to conveniently carry it all.  However, carrying everything in one heavy camping rucksack can have consequences on your back.  Luckily, there are designs to reduce this.

Every camping rucksack should have an adequate strapping system on it to help support your back as you carry its weight.  Carrying a heavy rucksack inappropriately can put strain on your back and leave you struggling, and that can ruin any Hiking Trip.   

A good camping rucksack is designed to fit and support your back perfectly, with added straps to relieve pressure where it would normally sit.  Your back is a delicate thing, and if you hurt it or damage it, it can be hard to put right. 

There are certain things on a good camping rucksack that you should keep an eye out for when you shop for one.  The first are the shoulder straps.  Are they adequately padded?  This is where most of the weight will be carried.  If the straps aren’t padded enough, then this can eventually start to hurt your shoulders.  With padding, it ensures that the straps sit comfortably on your shoulders. 

A sternum strap is also a good feature that helps to eliminate back issues.  A sternum strap connects the two shoulder straps across the chest, and pulls them closer together.  This releases some of the pressure on your shoulders, and stops them from being constantly pulled back. 

Another feature is a lumbar support.  This gives the lower back the support it needs whilst carrying a heavy weight.  There should also be a hip strap that, again, helps to support some of the weight and takes off some of the pressure from the shoulders. 

And adjustable height straps are a must.  If you are short your rucksack will sit fairly high above your head.  This can easily overbalance you, and you can strain yourself where you are in constant battle with the rucksack to stay upright.  Adjustable height straps help to draw the bag closer to the body, ending your struggle and making things easier for you.
