Installing Indoor/Outdoor carpet in my house!?
Is this such a good idea? My budget is really low and I cannot afford a proffesional to come in and redo all my harwood floors. I have seen some realy nice designs. I was just wondering is someone has done this and did they regret it?
Sorry to say your question is not so easy. The reason is that the term “indoor/outdoor” is misunderstood and misused. It is often used by consumers to describe “outdoor” type carpets, and it is often used to describe low nap “commercial” loop carpets. If you are referring to an outdoor carpet, or any type of turf or grass product I would recommend strongly you do NOT do it. If your budget is truly that tight I’d suggest a couple options. 1) rent a floor sander and do it yourself, the job probably will not look so professional, but it would surely be better than putting indoor/outdoor carpet throughout your home. Sanding and applying a polyurethane with a lambswool applicator will be far better even if not done by a pro. 2) You can get inexpensive “indoor” type low nap tight loop carpets and either lay it out loose, or glue it (be sure you will not ever want to save your wood floors before you glue!) or use carpet tape (double face) to secure it. You should easliy be able to find such a product in the 60-80 cents per sq foot range. you could also pay a professional to install it glued down for about another 40-50 cents a sq foot depending on where you live. 3) If your tight budget is temporary, consider having an inexpensive wall to wall cut pile carpet installed, prices for low cost product should start at about $1.75 per sq foot.(but know this type of quality will only be good for a couple eyars at best depending on usage). 4) you could also for about $1.65 per sq foot get a laminate flooring product of decent quality and install it yourself and have a great floor!
