Plus Hydration
Plus Hydration
Calculating the standard enthaplyof hydration..?
Use the data below to calculate the standard enthalpy of hydration of the potassium ion:
Cl(minus) (g) —-> Cl (minus) (aq) = -364 KJ mol’
KCl (s) —-> K(plus) (g) + Cl (minus) (g) = +718 KJ mol’
KCl (s) —-> K (plus) (aq) + Cl (minus) (aq) = +17 KJ mol’
All of the figures are for enthalpy change of hydration.
PLEASE HELP!
Your target equation is potassium + water —> potassium hydroxide
The top equation can stay as it is.
Reverse the 2 other equations, so the potassium is on the reactant side.
You get -718 and -17 respectively.
then do (-718) + (-17) + (-364)
That’s your answer!
