Peak Camping
Camping around Breckenridge?
I’m going to be hiking Quandary Peak on Saturday, and wanted to know of a good car camping spot around Breckenridge that I can stay at on Friday night. Not a developed site where you’re right next to someone…I want to get away from the crowds. Any ideas?
I think camping in Montezuma is the prettiest. It’s not totally secluded, but it’s better than what you’ll find around Lake Dillon. I can’t think of any camping in Breck that is worthwhile. ‘Zuma is about 25 minutes from Breck.
Montezuma is a small town beyond Keystone. Take the last exit off of Rt. 6 before Loveland Pass (towards Arapaho Basin) it’s the last Keystone exit. Go straight past Keystone/Ski Tip area, and about 5-10 miles up the road, you will see really pretty campsite locations off to the right. There isn’t a lot of traffic going up the road, since essentially the road ends in Montezuma, so it’s just local traffic.
You may have to get a permit to camp there- but maybe not.
Good luck.
