What should I pack for a week rental, air travel, 4 people?

Our annual holiday drive have always been so far but we are flying this year. I'm stumped on the best way to pack, following the airline rules, without having to pay excess baggage. It's my husband, two teenagers, and me. Separate packing of each? One or two big suitcases? We will be changing hotels a couple of times, flying more than a destination, so I'm hoping to make things as easy as possible. Any guidance is appreciated!

First things first. Knowing that you have assigned two hand luggage per person despite the airline. This means that each can bring your own bag from 19 to 22 inches and a bag / Duffle Bag / backpack load for free on the plane. However, This means you will be responsible for finding a place in the upper chamber for each of your bags and allocate the space under the seat for your school bags, as case. This can be frustrating, especially if 4 of which are among the last passengers embarked on a full flight.
