A tank open top suffer excessive evaporation?

I'm just about to start a tropical divortia and am considering a principle open tank design with a light suspended. Will this design of the tank cause excessive evaporation or condensation on the room or am I better off going for a tank fitted with a lid?

Yes, water eveaporate faster. In addition, as noted, the fish can also jump. Many people keep the tanks successfully uncovered, but have to keep up with filling the tank. If you wish to suspend the lighting above the tank, get a Plexiglas Tank Cover glass. Plexiglas is better to not retract or distortion of the lighting as much as glass.
