Uses of Nylon Fiber
Nylon is a synthetic polymer that is used in almost every kind of industry. First of all nylon-bristled toothbrush was made in 1938 that was followed by women’s stockings in 1940. It is a commercially successful polymer. Basically nylon came in existence to replace silk as during World War II silk was almost lost. After the scarcity of silk, flak vests and parachutes were made by this. Nowadays carpets, strings, bridal veil and many other products are made from nylon.
Nylon fiber is small, shinny and round. It has excellent abrasion resistance. It melts on burning.
Uses of Nylon Fiber
- Nylon fiber is most extensively used fiber in the investigation and it is one of the most widely used artificial materials.
- Nylon is the strongest material. For strength it is also compared to hemp fibers but experiments have proved that nylon is stronger than the hemp fibers. Because of this reason it is extensively used in rope making.
- Nylon fiber is also used in packing material
- Food sheaths like sausages and meat are made up of nylon. So nylon is used for packing food stuff.
- Nylon is used in making bath sponges. These are also called bath puffs or boofpoofs.
- It is also used in clothes as in case of Tactel®. It is derived from the latin word “tacto” that means touch. It uses special nylon. Tactel® is also used in women lingerie. Marks and Spencer use this for making clothes.
- All waterproof clothes like rain coats, hats, leggings are made up of nylon.
- Nylon is very widely used in making tyres, ponchos, and military supplies. This has replaced the Asian silk in parachutes during World War II.
- Nylon straps, nylon webbing are also made from this fiber.
