Wet ammunition, which is right?
Well, a question beginners and I have been running for years: What happens if it gets wet ammunition? Reason for which I ask, I just got a huge box of Military Surplus, ammunition 7.62×25. I'm sure it works, everyone on the site have used it says it works very well. The only thing is that is corrosive (obviously), and, again, is over. I did not want to spoil any of this ammunition, but it is very tarnished. I know it makes no difference when it comes to performance, but I mean that's definitely evident that sat in a bunker or military storage, let's say. I've read ways to remove the tarnish by using water, salt, soap and foil, but …. I'm not really into the idea of salt water on the ammunition. Any ideas?
As far as I know, the only thing that can happen with the wet powder is a "hanging" people who shoot muzzleloaders experience, rather than firing cartridges. Worst case scenario IMO pull the trigger to hear the first blast, nothing happens. Keep your gun pointed in that direction if it is a crash and a shot the delay, if so much as a few grains of dust capture the heat generated will be sufficient to ignite the powder dry and wet one in the case. If theres tanish, best you remove, clean ammunition with a cloth, then get some steel wool and brass polished to a brilliant, most of the time the bronze, it seems the casings can be purchased virgin Gander MTN.
