British Army Uniform

The British Army uniform developed along roughly the same line uniforms in other European armies. His color had become standardized as the signature red for both infantry (foot) and cavalry (assembled) from units by the end of the 17th century, with the exception of the Royal Horse Guards and Royal Artillery who wore dark blue, khaki and then (for daily use) and blue (for the parade) in the 1930s. Netherwear and equipment followed European fashion. Exotic costume, such as the hussars and Zouaves, was either embraced late and dropped the pitch, or which is not covered at all.

This reflects the demands of the colonial war and the freedom it allows, and led by many of the officers who fought it. But it also may have had an aesthetic impulse. The armies of Europe were settling on mostly dark blue tunics and black equipment as a halfway house between display and practicality. This was not possible for the British army, wedded as it was red tunics which in turn required white equipment to look nice. To become less conspicuous, the British army had no choice but to abandon completely red on active duty.

British army uniforms currently exist in various degrees, which are carried in terms of the requirements for a unit or individual, ranging from ceremonial uniforms to combat dress. While there are officially fifteen degrees different (or "numbers"), many of these are rarely used or removed completely. Note that uniform distinctions can vary greatly from one regiment or body to another, and the following descriptions are generalizations.

The dress is completely prepared for the most used by the army British. It was withdrawn from general issue in 1914, the Household Division resumed using her full scarlet dress in 1920, but for the rest of the Army, jackets red were authorized for use by bands of the regiments and mess dress or on certain limited social occasions or ceremonial. The reason for not reintroducing generally distinctive full dress was mainly financial, as the scarlet cloth required expensive red cochineal dye.

Full dress is now rarely used except by the guards up and the Household Cavalry. It is published at public expense to these units, units may obtain and use full dress (in its pre-1914 model if no modern order is prescribed) for use in the historic sample, acting as ushers or lining parties at weddings, and when acting as a guard of the sword the Royal Horse Artillery. [2] However, these uniforms should be purchased and maintained from public funds [3].

Each regiment or body normally Full dress is prescribed for its unique style adopted by the Army Dress Committee. [5] In general, a modified version of the pre-1914 uniforms. In the For units built since the First World War as the Army Air Corps, the Full Dress order incorporates both traditional and modern elements.

Full Dress is used whenever a parade is attended or ordained by the monarch or a member of the British Royal Family, including ceremonial parades, funerals of State and public duties around royal residences (as the guard). It is used by all members of the Household Division attending the procession of the mayor, they also participate in honor guards or recruitment drives.

No. 1 Dress, sometimes called "depression" universal ceremonial uniform which is almost uniform throughout the British Army. No. 1 Dress only used on ceremonial occasions, and in some regiments, by Officer Guard. Frequency is also needed to be carried by a small list of other units, senior staff officers (above the rank of Major General) designated as aides and officials of the royal household. [7] The general order is not issued to all units, with No. 2 functioning as khaki dress uniform main staging.

For most of the regiments and corps No. 1 dress consists of a dark blue tunic and trousers (or skirts), with a cap color visor. Different units are distinguished by the color of the cap, piping on the tunic and welts or stripes on the pants and badges. There are some exceptions: the tunic and trousers of guns and rifles Royal Gurkha Rifles are green and the King's Royal Hussars are crimson, and cavalry regiments carry chains rather than Shoulder Straps. Officers may wear a waist sash of Crimson, silver and crimson silk, or a cross belt depending on the dress of his regiment regulations and whether or not a ceremonial sword. Other ranks wear a leather belt, white suede, with a medallion pattern Regiment, with a buff bayonet frog if carrying weapons.

The cap is not used by all the regiments, berets instead used by the Royal Tank Regiment, Army Aviation Corps, Regiment Paratroopers, Special Air Service and the Intelligence Corps. [8 Berets] are also used by other ranks of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers and the Royal Welsh in which feather show hackles, feathers recalling formerly worn at the gala Busby [8]. The Royal Regiment of Scotland wear a Glengarry regiment cockfeathers taken from former ceremonial uniform of the Royal Scots, the Royal Irish Regiment wear the Caubeen, while the Brigade of Gurkhas wear a hat Kilmarnock.

Originally published as a uniform campaign (see Service Dress (British Army)), the uniform is worn for most formal duties by all units. No.2 dress consists, for most corps and regiments of a khaki jacket, shirt and tie with slacks or a skirt. Head dress is the same as that used to wear No. 1, with the exception of the Brigade of Gurkhas, who wear the floppy hat and the Queen's Royal Hussars who wear their hat shop (the only head dress worn without a cap badge or other distinction). The Royal Regiment of Scotland wear a special pattern of jacket with a cut away front, worn with a plaid skirt regimental or trews. colorful pants are worn by some units: crimson by the King's Royal Hussars and dark green Royal Irish Regiment and the Guard Royal Dragons.

Officers are required to purchase their service dress, with a uniform allowance to offset this and other uniform purchases. The pattern and the material differs between Regiments: for instance, service dress and foot Guard Honorable Artillery Company is darker than the "standard" while the service dress worn by officers of the first Queen's Dragoon Guards is of "Bays" pattern cavalry twill.

distinctions Regimental No. 2 is in touch with collared dress can include dogs (sometimes with fabric lining color), color strings are used in the shoulder, and bracelets of your arm. regimental buttons are used, for most of these units are gold or silver, with black buttons used by the guns and bronze by the Princess of Wales Royal Regiment. Officers and Warrant Officers wear a leather Sam Browne belt (that first Queen's Dragoon Guards is of pig skin which should not be highly polished) or a belt cross. Infantry Warrant Officers and SNCOs wear a red sash over his right shoulder hip and Soldiers wear a waist belt or white plastic black with a buckle plate showing the insignia of the regiment.

Each regular army soldier is issued with a suit of No.2 dress. Overall, the emission of this order of dress to units of the Territorial Army is limited to officers, noncommissioned officers and sergeants, with pools of khaki uniforms being held for the use of lower grades for special occasions [10].
