Gothgaon, University Town In Nepal

Gothgaon is a small beautiful town in Nepal. It is the center of 3 VDCs (Sundarpur, Dulari and Mrigauliya) in Morang district of Nepal. Gothgaon is located near about 30 km north of Biratnagar, the second largest city in Nepal after Kathmandu. Biratnagar is also well known for industrial city of Nepal. It boosts largest industrial area in the whole country, expanding from Rani Mills Area to Duhabi River. Raghupati Jute Mills and Dhanawat Matches are among the nation’s oldest industries. Gothgaon is the main location of the eastern region university i.e. Purbanchal University, Shree Panchayat Scecondary School, banks, organizations, clubs and other many more. The town is conveniently located at the hub of major cities and main East West Highway. Gothgaon lies in Morang District, a part of Koshi Zone. Morang district, with Biratnagar as its district headquarters, covers an area of 1,855 km² and has a population in 2001 of 843,220.
Gothgaon is a University town on the southern Tarai of Eastern Nepal. Gothgaon is situated in a fertile area with rich black soil suitable to the cultivation of sugar-beets, rice Jute and many others. Most of the land is taken up by rice and jute cultivation, though areas of Sal forest remain along the northern part of the district where the plains meet the hills. A large amount of the forest was cleared in the last century, and in the process, many settlers migrated to the district from the hills and India. Gothgaon is also one of the most culturally diverse regions in Nepal.
Purvanchal University at Gothgaon, which offers graduate level courses in many disciplines of Arts and Liberal Sciences, is certain to make the place a college town as it attracts college graduates from most of the eastern part of the nation.The district neighbours India to the south, and the districts of Sunsari to the west and north, Jhapa to the east, and Dhankuta to the north east. Government of Nepal has provided 545 hectares of land at Gothgaon near East West Highway. According to the Master Plan of Purbanchal University, it has built and constructed central academic building for medical college to run MBBS program. PU has constructed excellent central library, building for the proposed Peace Research Center. The University campus, is located at Gothgaon in the Eastern Region of Nepal, covers over 545 hectares of deteriorating forest land provided by the Government of Nepal. For conservation, promotion of environment and sustainable economic development, PU has allocated 50% for productive forest, 12.5% for high income generating farm activities as medicinal herbs, another 12.5% for agro-forestry with ecosystem management approach, and the remaining 25% for infrastructure and physical facility.
Construction of Proposed Academic Buildings of Purbanchal University at Gothagaun, Morang comprises of number of academic and residential buildings with all quality controlled frame structure buildings. The total works consists of a total civil works along with external and internal electrification works, sanitation and landscaping works etc.
Under the physical development plan, PU has endeavoured into building its infrastructure and physical facilities with limited resources. For this first phase of development, with an estimate of Rs. 240 million have been invested for the construction at Gothgaon, Morang. PU has planned the overall construction in two phases (Phase I: 1999-2004 and Phase II: 2005-2009). PU has constructed Administrative Building, Central Campus, Central Library, Staff Quarters A-type and B-type, Boys and Girls Hostels, Continuing Education Centre in the Phase I.

The Purvanchal University has stated that it will run a teaching hospital in the recently constructed buildings at Gothgaun in Morang district. Purbanchal University plans to establish a 300-bed district-level teaching hospital of the College of Medical and Allied Sciences. At least nine modern building have been constructed on over 800 bigahs of land made available for the university by the government. The Eastern Regional University is working to establish the first digital library in the country. Founded in 2053 BS with the objective of making higher education qualitative, employment-oriented and skilled and providing vocational education to all, the university has been striving hard to consolidate its physical infrastructure. The forest area in Gothgaon of Morang district is to be used for various purposes like production-oriented scientific forestry, herbs production and an agriculture forest.
Actual numbers of operational Telecenters or rural information centers (RIC) are being studied by Rural Telecenter Coordination Committee (RTCC) at High Level Commission for IT. There are combinations of I/NGOs, CBOs, Government agencies and private sector that are participating in establishing such centers through different models. Shree Panchayat Secondary School, Gothgaon is also registered in this website. Shree Panchayat Secondary Scool at Gothgaon is one of the best schools in Nepal.
