Game interactions
Could you imagine playing World of Warcraft at university? Well, acutally these kinds of things may happen during the IMKE studies:P This week we had a really cool course - game interactions. The course was held by two guys from Södertörns University (SWE): Ulf Hagen and Jon Manker. During the week we had cool lectures and workshops about gaming history, testing games, the conception of games and creating games.
Gaming as art?
The last session was about finding out if games can be considered as art. We were all in opinion that the graphics and the sounds can be understanded as art. But the question was, if the interaction of the games or the gaming process can be considered as art? I believe it can. If you consider happenings as art, you better consider gaming as art aswell:) Happenings and gaming are similar in the way, that they don’t need audience and the process can change during the time - nobody knows how they will really end… I guess there’s no big difference in painting and designing games - they both need creative mind.
ChIMKE Adventures III
The course ended with a cool workshop, where we had to create a design document for a game. We came up with Geroli and Egert and made a game about a lost kitten, who needs to find his way back to home. To get there, he needs to overcome a lot of threats and eat some rats. Ofcourse he had to watch for the poison-rats:) The trailer of the game can be found here: ChIMKE Adventures III
