Why are they (U.S. government) to do this with a fine Marina?

Camp Pendleton, California – A court martial for the alleged ringleader of the Navy in the kidnapping and execution of an Iraqi civilian began Tuesday with lawyers in the case of screening potential jurors. Marine Sgt. Lawrence G. Hutchins III, 23, leader of the squad of eight men involved in the killing, is accused of murder, kidnapping, conspiracy, assault and other crimes. Hutchins, of Plymouth, Massachusetts, faces a mandatory life sentence if convicted of murder. Prosecutors said Hutchins team hatched a plot to kidnap and kill a suspected insurgent. But when they could not find the troops once kidnapped a neighbor, 52-year-old Hashim Ibrahim Awad, 1000 meters left him her house and shot to death. Sgt Hutchins said he did it for the U.S. and to help win the war. Do the supporters of the war come to their aid?

I do not think he's wrong to prosecute a soldier who claims the right to be judge, jury and executioner. Granted in the heat of battle, a soldier firing a gun at an unarmed civilian, who was not involved in the conflict, is an unfortunate but inevitable aspect of war. However, from the description of the case, this looks like premeditated murder and not a normal battle situation. War, must have some commitment to standards. Now, I'm not defending the ridiculous requirements that have been imposed on our men, where not allowed to play their weapons unless fired. That, to me, is a requirement of idiots, and practically a death sentence. They should be given carte blanche to use all firepower available in the event that the slightest suspicion that someone has the intention of shooting them. However, this scenario, at least from the description of the facts, seems to be a cold blooded execution. That is not only immoral, which should be considered anti-American. We have to distinguish from our enemies, and not We can do this if it uses the same barbarism that our adversaries engage in. If we are to bring something to the Iraqi people desire and will adhere to, then we can not imitate the indiscriminate brutality of the old regime toppled.
