Why You Need A Water Cooler in the Summer

No one knows what the weather is going to be like this summer. British summers are of course notorious for being unpredicatble (which basically means predictable wet), however it could be that this year, a heat wave may be on the horizon. London is not designed to cope with heat waves. I remember that infamous summer of 2003 when temperatures soared to 40 degress centigrade. London transport virtually came to a standstill as temperatures on the underground became unbearable. There were incidents of people becoming unwell on the tube, heat stroke afflicted many, and it was mostly an unpleasant experience for all, apart from those with huge gardens and swimming pools. I was confined to my bed that summer, as I had just undergone an operation. I sat in a pool of sweat with a bottle of luke warm water, wishing that something would come along to relieve the situation. Had i been aware of the benefits of having a water cooler at home, I would have sent someone to the nearest water cooler distributor to collect one pronto.

Water coolers are extremely useful instruments to have around when the sun decides to strike. The advantage of them, is that they chill the water with direct chilling technology, so you never have to suffer the warm water curse. Neither do you have to load up your glass with piles of ice cubes which then begin to melt rapidly as soon as they come into contact with tap water.

It is extremely important to keep hydrated in the summer months, as the body is losing water at a far higher rate due to perspiration and raised heart rates. Most of us neglect to take this into account, thinking we only need to drink what we have for the rest of the year. We would rather have an iced coffee, or iced cold beer than introduce an extra glass of water into our daily diet. Water coolers could encourage you to keep drinking, simply by being in your sight line and reminding you of the pleasure of sipping on an ice cold glass of water.

How long can a person go without hydration after a stroke?

My father was admitted with stroke early thursday morning, has had all kinds of tests and seems to be getting excellent care except for no hydration. He is unable to swallow and a feeding tube is being put in tomorrow, supposedly. I would have expected that hydration IV would have been given right away but my family is being told no, something about the tests he had to have, possible pneumonia, etc. Does anybody know the protcol for hydrating a patient, I am very worried. I am 1000 miles away ,traveling tomorrow.

I wouldn’t worry too much about that. His hydration needs won’t be any different than if he hadn’t had the stroke. They would be giving him fluids if he needed it. It may be inappropriate, in his particular condition, to give IV fluids at this particular time.

God bless you and your whole family. It’s a difficult time, I’m sure.
