How much water it takes a lot for a day of hiking?
assuming up around 10k, stopping a fairly regular basis, tight, warm and sunny conditions
Always bring more than you think youll really need. I'm not trying to be morbid or scary here but if he loses you'll be very happy to have clean drinking water
Mount Kilimanjaro Hiking
MOUNT KILIMANJARO CLIMB
Anyone in good physical condition can climb the mountain. Kilimanjaro .. No climbing experience is necessary to reach the summit of the highest mountain in Africa 5895 M (19,340 FT), with its magnificent glaciers bright, Flora and Fauna.
Time
Mount Kilimanjaro can be climbed any time of year, but there are two rainy seasons – late March to mid-June and November. The best months are December, January to March and from July to October usually dry and minimum clouds.
8 DAYS MT. ROUTE-Marangu KILIMANJARO
Day 1: Arrival - Arusha
The trip from Nairobi to Arusha to board a bus or van from the Kilimanjaro Airport – Transfer to a hotel for the night
Day 2: Marangu Gate (1980m) – refuge Mandara (2700m)
Walking time: 5 hours | Distance: 12 km from | Habitat: Montane Forest
The drive from Moshi to the gate of Kilimanjaro National Park, takes about 50 minutes. The route goes through the village of Marangu, which is located at the foot of the mountain. Upon reaching the park gate, all hikers are requested to sign the Park office and make arrangements end for promotion. The porters will carry their organization and backpacks containing food, water, cooking gas and most of his team. Sure that has all your items bag (containing at least drinking water, food pack and extra clothing) with you as the porters climb much faster than hikers. Our guides will be available to assist with any additional information or needs you may have. Now leave the park gate and ascend on a cleared Ridge Trail through the rainforest. The forest, steeped in mist and dripping with beards of moss, is also where most animals are Kilimanjaro. (An alternative and more scenic parallel forest trail, branches off to the left a few minutes after entry. This path follows the banks of a river through weed and gives you the option to return to the main runway, and that after 1 ½ hour walk or 1 hour before Mandara hut.)
Your first night stop, Mandara shelter, is a group of wooden A-framed huts in a clearing in the forest. Each cabin has 6-8 litters generated by sunlight. The total camp capacity is 60 climber. Water is piped into the camp from springs above and there are toilets behind the main cabin.
Day 3: Mandara refuge (2700m) – hut Horombo (3720m)
Walking time: 6 hours | Distance: 15 km | Habitat: Páramo
From the hut Mandara trail passes through a short stretch forest, then skirts the base of the crater and then Maundi emerge in the transition from rain forest to moorland. It is worth a short detour to scramble up the edge Maundi Crater for your first really impressive view of the Kibo crater. On a clear day, Kibo will glimmer from afar, showing her majestic glaciers in the morning Sun Once in the open moorland you'll have the chance to see some of Kilimanjaro's most spectacular plants – the endemic giant lobelia which grows to 3 m high , and the giant groundsel (Senecio Kilimanjari), which can reach heights of 5m! After six hours from here you reach the shelter Horombo, where water will hot wash, rest, a dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Horombo hut (3720m) – Acclimatisation days
Horombo hut is a village of huts perched on a small plateau, with buildings similar to Mandara, but with a total capacity of 120 climbers! Normally filled with hikers, guides, porters and an atmosphere of adventure and excitement. You will meet both ascending and descending hikers here. This day extra night for acclimatization Horombo is additional. A hike to the refuge Mawenzi, passing the Zebra Rocks on the road (about 3 hours and 1.5 hours down), is highly recommended. This hike will further assist in the process of acclimatization. Remember to drink enough water and move slowly! All meals are provided at the hut. Retire to bed early and rest a good night.
Day 5: Horombo hut (3720m) – refuge Kibo (4700m)
Walking time: 6 hours | Distance: 15 km | Habitat: the Alpine desert
After breakfast, now continue their ascent in the desert habitats of the Alps. Horombo Since there are two ways to "chair" (Which refers to the area between the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo). There is an upper route (right fork) and lower route (left hand fork) to choose from. The route starts higher (holder of the right) will be very familiar, as they have risen more than the day before her at the shelter Mawenzi. It is very stony and eroded.
The recommended lower route (left hand fork) is much easier and nearly an hour and passes the last watering point at 4130m. You will need to fill their Water Bottles with all the water you need until your return to Horombo hut in a period of two nights (unless you are willing to buy mineral water at Kibo hut). Again, slow down and remember to drink enough water! Located in the arid desert of the Alps Horombo hut, built a stone house which has bunk block for 60 climbers, but no nearby waterways. However, it is possible to buy mineral water and refreshments at the field office.
There are platform toilets behind the hut. The summit is 1195m above now and make your final ascent the same night. Prepare your equipment, ski stick and thermal clothing for the summit bid. This should include replacement of the flashlight and camera batteries and make sure you have a spare set available as well. To prevent freezing will prudent to carry your water in a thermos. Go to bed at about 19h00 and try to rest as much as possible and sleep.
Day 6: attempt the summit, Kibo shelter (4700m) – Uhuru Peak (5895m) – Horombo Hut (3720m)
Hiking time: 8 hours to Uhuru – 6 hours to descend to Horombo | Distance: 6km climb – 21 kilometers Downhill | Habitat: Stone scree and ice-covered summit
You will rise around 23h30, and after some tea and biscuits shuffle at night, and this is where things get really difficult. In the first section of the trail is a path to the Hans Meyer rock cave (5150m), also a good place to rest. The road zigzags up to Gillman point (5 681m), located on the edge of the crater. This section is very steep with a lot of stones stone, which require a great physical and mental effort. Probably the most demanding part of the entire route. Do the Kili shuffle and move slowly.
From the point Gillman normally encounter snow all the way to Uhuru Peak (5895m), the highest point in Africa. total joy and satisfaction – you made. Weather conditions at the summit will determine how long you will be able to spend, taking photographs, three hours before the descent back to Kibo hut. After a short break to gather your things you left behind for the ascent and head down to Horombo hut (3 hours) for your overnight. The return to Horombo cabin seem surprisingly fast compared to the climb. The total time spent walking in this day is about 14 hours, so prepare for a very hard day.
Day 7: Horombo hut (3720m) – Marangu Gate (1980m)
Walking time: 6 hours | Distance: About 27 km of
After breakfast, continue your descent (6 hours), passing the Mandara shelter, to the Marangu gate. At Marangu gate you sign your name and contact details in a register. This is also where successful climbers receive their summit certificates. The climbers who reached Gillman point (5685m) have been certified ecological and those who came Uhuru Peak (5895m), receive gold certificates. Now drive back to Arusha for a long hot shower for more, dinner and celebrations! Overnight at a budget hotel.
Day 8: Departure
Transfer to Kilimanjaro airport for your flight back home or continue your safari schedule / travel back to Nairobi to board a bus.
