Frame Pad Straps

Swamp cooler???

Got two questions, I live in a desset climate . We mount out swamp coolers on the roofs of our houses here. At the hottest part of the day the cooler logically doesnt work as well .Could we place a peice of plywood over the cooler to shade the Metal Frame and the cooling pads from the sun ? It would have to be strapped down of course. And how many windows should i have open at a time? i live in a large 5 bd home with a full basement..Thanks
