Foliage Green

Foliage Green
problems with my purple Rhododendron and my African violet?

I can not get them to bloom! I got them both last spring and they had blooms then never again! The violet is in a sunny window in my kitchen and the Rhododendron is in a pot outside the green foliage looks healthy! oh I live in MI if that helps? What can I do?

Every now & again rinse a milk carton and water the AV with it. This should be a very weak solution, so the water doesn’t cause a foul odor. After 2 or 3 wks you should see duds. I heard i and tried it, after using plant food to no avail. It is the calcium that the violet needs.

as for the rhoddy…most likely it can be solved with a good plant food. Something with micro- nutrients. Another thing might be the pH. If the plant has to much calcium it will not bloom, just make foilage. Coffee grounds at the base (under the mulch) will help to lower the pH and encourage blooms.
Hope this helps.
