Adding Folding Doors To Your Home

Copyright (c) 2010 Ianson Internet Marketing

If you would like to expand a room or make it more attractive, you might want to consider adding folding doors to the exterior of your home. Adding folding doors brings the styles of accordion and French doors together.

In addition, when you family is growing, it’s an inexpensive way to give your home another room. With more people, these doors are especially handy because they’ll make entering and existing easier since both of the door’s sides can open or close.

Here are more advantages to adding folding doors to the exterior of your home.

Flexibility

You always have the option of dividing a room simply by closing the folding doors. Also, you can add space upon opening them. This gives you greater flexibility of how you can use your room. For instance, if you have guests overnight, these doors will help provide an extra bedroom and still leave another room available. If you enjoy entertaining, opening the folding doors will let your guests move freely to mingle.

Privacy

These doors can help the room be soundproof and increase your privacy. You can have a conversation without other people being able to hear you from the outside of your home.

Good Investment

In addition, many people put in folding doors because they make a good long-term investment. Folding doors help insulate the heat and air conditioning from escaping. This can lower your utility bills. Future home buyers will probably find reduced utility bills an important feature of your home.

The materials used to construct folding doors may be selected for durability, along with color and style. Many people select wood, metal or glass for these features. Various combinations are possible to match your preferences. However, avoid reducing the door’s durability while you decide on the door’s style.

Easy To Use

Folding doors are easy to use. Home owners can add an automatic remote control unit for opening and closing the doors, that works from the outside or inside. Doors with an automatic control can make a strong impact on the real estate value of your home, since they’re attractive, dependable and convenient.

Popularity

Many people have found these doors appealing because they offer a wide view point to the exterior and make going outside much easier. Folding doors are also called bi fold, concertina or bi-folding doors. You may see them displayed in home designer conventions and home improvement shows.

NO – Buck 110 folding knife 3 ¾ blade overall 8 ½ open and 5 inches closed

NO – Leatherman TTI multi-tool

NO – Kobalt tri-blade utility knife, 3 inch straight blade, and 3 inch serrated blade

NO KNIVES or BLADED INSTRUMENTS of any kind or length (except short scissors)

If you want to bring these things, then you can put them into a bag that you will hand in at the ticket counter that will go into the cargo hold. If you try to take these in your carry on bag, then they WILL be taken away from you.

DON’T KNOW – Two ¾ inch (things that you connect two chains together with
If this is just like a metal clip or a chain link of some sort, then that would be fine. DO NOT try to bring the chains if you mean real chain such as you would use for hauling something.

OK -Pen, permanent marker

OK – Dvd-r contain movies

OK – Laptop

OK – Steel-toe boots (i wear them everywhere)

OK – zippo lighter
People will tell you that you cannot take this, but the TSA web site (the people who make the rules) say specifically that you CAN take one standard zippo type or butane lighter with you into the cabin. Some people will say to put it into your checked luggage – that is WRONG. You can only put lighters into your checked luggage if you either empty them of fuel, or if you put them into special DOT approved containers. It says so specifically on the TSA web site. Really!

Read more about what you can and cannot bring here:

http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm

That page had a general list, and has links to many lists that cover specific kinds of different items.

EDIT: Anything like a knife or other bladed or sharp pointed items must be in a sheath or have the sharp edge/point protected so it cannot hurt anyone – like a TSA inspector – who may go through the contents. There are no restrictions on carrying sharp objects, knives, swords, tools and so in in checked luggage, so you do not need to do anything special except to be certain that they are packed in such a way that they cannot cut or harm anyone.

The TSA website has some tips on packing that may be useful.

When you have luggage to check, you need to go to the ticket counter of the airline on which you are flying and wait to get to the head of the line then talk with one of the agents. You just need to tell them your name, really, and produce some ID (driver’s license is the usual thing). They will look up your reservation. Tell them you have 1 (or 2 or whatever the number is) of bags to check to whatever your final destination city is.

These days there is a baggage fee for just about everyone (not traveling first class), so be prepared to pay the fee. You can look at the airline’s web site to find out the cost for each bag, and you can sometimes get a discount by paying the fee on line before you actually go to the airport.

While you are at the ticket counter, the agent can also print out the boarding pass or passes that you need for your flights.

After you get the boarding passes, and the agent takes your bag, then you can go to wait in the security line.

Leave for the airport earlier than you might otherwise, so you have additional time to get through the line at the ticket counter. It is hard to predict how long it is and how long the wait will be.
