Is there ultraviolet light in a regular permanent marker (Black Ink)?
Hi i’m going to use a permanent marker to add black markings to a Blaze orange material on a daypack that i’m using while deer hunting. I know deer can see some kinds of light that we humans can’t see in the lower light spectrum; so i’m asking if regular marker ink will stand out as visible to Deer.
Thanks everyone.
pisgahchemist thanks for your reply, it made sense. Since this ink will be visible during daylight (while deer hunting) it will appear as black to the human eye, my question is will it also appear as black to the eye of the deer?
I have read that deer see the red spectrum poorly or not at all, with equally superior vision in the blue end of the spectrum. So the blaze orange that I wear is not visible as blaze orange to the deer; i’m wondering how much of black ink is visible in spectrums (spectra?) not visible to the human eye.
Thanks again,
Thanks Jcherry, sorry i can’t rate at this stage.
Pisgahchemist has given you a first rate explanation of how markers work. Still there is the nagging feeling that it just might reflect other wavelengths. So you are left with 2 alternatives.
1 you set up an experiment yourself. Infrared is below light. You might mark a piece material with a black marker and see if it reflects anything to a well placed thermometer. Use an un marked piece of material as your control.
2. you could phone the manufacturer. I’ve done that. They know strange things about their products and if you hit the right person, they’d be more than happy to tell you.
EDIT
====
I got the impression you meant red is superior. Sorry. Then try it with a “black” lamp. One of those things that is used by rock musicians that produces uv light.
