How can I legally carry a handgun on my wilderness camp/hike trip in California.?

I posses a Nevada CCW and understand that it’s not valid in CA so wondering what restrictions I have being from out of state to carry a handgun while on my solo wilderness hiking/camping trip in CA? I assume open carry is OK? I have no plans on hunting only personal protection.

You can carry any kind of legal firearm concealed or open, loaded or unloaded in any National Forest and BLM land unless expressly forbidden, even in California. Target shooting is also permitted unless expressly forbidden. Firearms are prohibited in California State Parks, National Parks, and Monuments. Common sense: If it’s legal to hunt there, it’s legal to carry a loaded firearm there.
