Copenhagen is a metropolis that is both the capital and largest city in Denmark with almost two million people call home. This bustling burg was not always a world-renowned cultural epicenter, however. This futuristic, super-advanced city was once a quaint, quiet fishing village that once fought to time with the invading Vikings. Copenhagen Viking survived the onslaught, however, and through the ages it resisted the attacks of the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, many other countries. It was sometimes busy, sometimes it was completely absorbed, but the shining diamond of the Scandinavian world never ceased to maintain their own cultural identity.
These days, Copenhagen continues its reign as the capital of Denmark, but it seems to have changed a bit from its roots in fishing. Like many cities in Denmark, Copenhagen, can now be seen as something of a wonderland. "Although it has all the necessary commercial and financial districts, the city is definitely much more "cool" than it was in past centuries and once a humble village is now a major tourist attraction, with millions of visitors every year to witness the wonderful sights to behold many in this fascinating land. What makes Copenhagen so attractive is its large number variety it contains. There are beautiful, warm beaches of the coast near the island of Zealand, but Copenhagen is not just a tourist town. There are countless parks, thanks Hall's efforts to create one of the greenest cities on Earth Copenhagen, but by no means a city full of forests.
Many people visitors to Copenhagen will not go there for the natural beauty, however. Thanks to the elderly in Copenhagen, is a treasure of architecture to consider for the history buff, the fan architecture, and even the casual observer. Christianburg Palacio, for example, is well known for its amazing tower system and thousands come each year to raise and lower these amazing creations. The later Danish architecture of the city, as the City Hall and the Stock Exchange, has won countless design awards in Europe RIBA European Awards World Architecture Festival, among others, and has earned the city the title of "best city in the world of design."
Music is another source of pride for Denmark, and the recently opened Copenhagen Concert Hall has helped attract thousands each month to the city to hear performances in all its glory thanks to expert design the corridor. Copenhagen jazz scene is one of the most prestigious in Europe and beyond, with many American jazz greats pays tribute to the city in recent years, including Ben Webster and Thad Jones.
Rare is the city that has its roots far back in history the world and can still maintain a substantial international presence. Copenhagen is a city and people who are lucky enough to be backpacking across Europe will lose the opportunity of a lifetime when they and the Scandinavian countries without visiting one of the most glorious of human history.
